FAQs

  • WILL IT PROTECT MY SKIN WHEN I GO IN THE SUN?

    •  NO AND NO.  You will still need to use SPF when out in the sun. Spray Tanning does not provide protection from UV exposure.

  • DOES IT SMELL BAD?

    • Our spray solutions have a minimal scent. It is a slight cherry almond scent that will go away within 1-2 hours. Opt for a spray scent add-on of your choice to enhance your luxury experience

  • WILL IT STAIN MY SHEETS/CLOTHING?

    • No, but the bronzer will transfer onto your sheets and clothing generally the first day so wear something dark and always loose-fitting. If you are concerned about your bed either change your sheets or lay another sheet down. Wearing long sleeves and pants to bed will help as well as to prevent skin-to-skin contact while sleeping.

  • HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

    • About 7 to 10 days. You can keep your tan longer by AVOIDING long hot showers, Mineral Oil-based lotions, excessive exfoliation, swimming in chlorine bleach pools and, the beach (saltwater acts as an exfoliant). Also, people who work out a lot and shower more often will not keep their tans as LONG as most. Purchasing a tan extender and moisturizer to use in between tanning appointments will also extend the fade of your tan by 2-3 days.

  • HOW CAN I MAKE MY TAN LAST LONGER?

    • Purchase a DHA-based lotion/extender lotion; when used about every other day, will help keep your tan longer. You should always wash your hands after applying the lotion. DHA will color the hands.

  • HOW DOES A SPRAY TAN WORK?

    • DHA is a sunless tanning agent and is the most popular way of achieving a natural-looking tan without being exposed to the harmful UV rays of the Sun and is approved by the FDA for sunless tanning. DHA is a simple carbohydrate that is often derived from plant sources such as sugar cane, also known as fructose, which is then taken through a series of untraceable synthetic processing. It causes a non-toxic chemical reaction with the amino acid groups, which are part of the keratin protein present in the outermost layers of the skin.

    • The depth of the tan will depend on the % strength of the DHA contained within the product. Overall depth and intensity of tan achieved will also depend on the consumer's own natural melanin content and thickness of the skin. In order to achieve a uniform result, you must remove loose scales from the skin before applying DHA.

    • The artificial tan immediately appears on the skin surface and will continue to darken over 24 hours depending on the formulation. Once the darkening effect has occurred, the tan becomes waterproof and will not wash away with soap or water. It will fade gradually over 7 to 10 days, in conjunction with the skin's normal exfoliation process. Exfoliation, prolonged water submersion, or heavy perspiration can lighten the tan, as these all contribute to rapid dead skin cell exfoliation.

    • Another important factor in achieving a spray tan is the pH levels of the skin and formulation. An alkaline pH causes the tan to look orange, whereas a slightly acidic pH reduces this color problem. A surplus of water in any formulation can hinder the tanning reaction; there is optimum water content for each of the formulation and skin required to achieve the best results. A balanced formulation understands the importance of maintaining moisture in the skin, the correct pH balance, and the odor reaction of protein and DHA. Every ShadeAway product is scientifically proven to work with all of the above-mentioned factors, developing a deeper, longer-lasting, and odorless tanning result.

  • CAN I SPRAY TAN IF I'M PREGNANT OR NURSING?

    • The concern some doctors have is over whether or not the active ingredient (DHA) is able to enter the bloodstream; the indications are that it cannot. DHA only penetrates the outermost layer of the skin. However, we recommend all clients get permission from their physician first. DHA has been used as a cosmetic ingredient in the United States since 1960 and no problems have ever been reported concerning DHA penetrating the skin. The FDA recommends avoiding exposure to mucous membranes, inhalation, and ingestion. The ShadeAway provides eye protection and nose plugs, and nipple coverings for breastfeeding. We are also equipped with filtered extraction van systems and will inform the client when we are spray tanning the face.

  • WILL THIS MAKE A MESS IN MY HOME?

    • Absolutely not! We use an enclosed pop-up tent and a filtered extraction fan that contains and prevents any overspray during the spraying process.

TRUST ME. TRUST THE PROCESS. YOU'RE IN GOOD HANDS.
